The “X-base” concept comes from the quickly assembled X-shaped table legs found beneath tables.

Commonly seen in banquet settings and night markets, these X-shaped legs are more than just temporary supports. They’re weather-resistant, easy to move, and capable of carrying stable loads. The tubular structure also offers both functionality and flexibility—this is what drew me to work with it.

The chair is constructed by combining a set of these legs with a metal stool, while the seat surface is made from the familiar blue-and-white tarp found almost everywhere.

(The beginning of things)

Frame will create an underground cinema bar beneath a park, where a chair competition will take place.

Using ready-made objects and existing furniture as materials, the project explores imagination within given constraints, redefining “outdoor” and “furniture” together with Frame.

(The process of things)

The tubing of the table legs turned out to be thinner than expected. During testing, its flexibility became apparent, leading to structural reinforcements to ensure overall stability. After dismantling the stool into its seat and legs, these elements were reinterpreted and extended into the bent tubular components of the tabletop and backrest.

The seat surface is made of thickened blue-and-white canvas, secured with brass rivets as structural connections.
